“I sleep much better now,” says Patrice Dupas, after suffering from nightmares for a long time. A winegrower from Loire-et-Cher has just won a case in the court of La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime).

On April 4, 2020, in France, isolated due to Covid-19, Patrice Dupas attempted to pay a final visit to his dying father, Claude Dupas. Having a certificate and receiving the green light from the gendarmes of his department, the fifty-year-old man came across a gendarme check at the entrance to the Ile de Ré viaduct. Repeated calls to the prefecture and the intervention of the family doctor did not change anything. His father died three days later. On April 16, 2020, the gendarmerie publicly admitted its guilt and canceled the fine of 135 euros originally imposed on Patrice Dupas.
