Product recall: Be careful if you buy chicken legs sold at Lidl, they are contaminated with listeria.

The government website Rappel Conso announced this Friday, March 29, that white free-range chicken thighs Label Rouge, sold in 550g trays, are being recalled throughout France, and especially in the west of France. These products, sold in more than fifty Lidl stores, were contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the causative agent of listeriosis. Health authorities are asking customers not to eat them.

These hips from the brand Étal du Poulier were on sale from March 8 to 20 in several Lidl stores. But other distributors will also be affected by similar products from other brands, the government website adds. A list of stores that sold these products is available here. A total of three batches are affected by the recall, all of which bear the CE marking FR 53.121.001.

Headaches and body aches

If you have already eaten this product and feel an increase in body temperature, accompanied by headache and pain, you should consult a doctor and report this consumption. According to Rappel Konso, listeriosis can manifest itself in severe forms with neurological complications. Maternal or fetal harm may also occur in pregnant women, RMC points out.

“Listeriosis is a disease that can be serious and has an incubation period of up to eight weeks. Pregnant women, as well as people with weakened immune systems and the elderly should be especially alert to these symptoms,” the site adds.

Also, if you happen to have yet to eat these chicken thighs, it is recommended that you destroy the product and contact your local store for a refund.
