Private clinics and hospitals call for ‘total strike’ from June 3

Will private clinics and hospitals close soon? This Wednesday, the Federation of Private Hospitalization (FHP) is calling on private healthcare providers to go on a “total strike” from June 3 in order to “save their institutions.”

“Meeting as the exclusive executive committee, the Federation of Private Hospitals (FHP) has decided, together with all private doctors’ unions, to respond to the shock caused” by the government’s 2024 price announcements “by uniting in a general strike.” “, with the exception of life-saving measures such as dialysis, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, stated in the FHP press release. This concerns 1,030 institutions and more than 200 thousand specialists, including 40 thousand private doctors.

This strike call is aimed at denouncing hospital prices in 2024. In this context, the government plans to increase prices in private facilities by 0.3%, compared to a 4.3% increase for public hospitals.

“This disastrous decision, taken without any consultation with sector players, exacerbates an already critical situation in which costs are rising exponentially and prices remain insufficient to support the viable operation of establishments,” FHP condemned in its release.

” In danger “

“By making an extremely serious choice, the government is putting at risk private clinics and hospitals, which account for 35% of hospital activity and only 18% of health insurance costs for medical institutions. Their crucial role in the local territorial network guarantees access to health care for millions of French people, but today this mission is compromised by political decisions of unprecedented violence,” she continues.

Days before this strike call, three private hospital giants – Elsan, Ramsay and Vivalto – asked the government to “rethink its copy”. “We collectively ask the Ministry of Health to be accepted and listened to,” said Sébastien Proto, president of Elsan.

“FHP expresses its desire to pursue all possible forms of legal action nationally and in every health care facility to confront this injustice and bring justice,” the press release concludes.
