The maternity ward of the Inkermann polyclinic will close its doors at the end of the year

Due to the drop in the number of births but also to the difficulty in finding gynecologists, the maternity unit of the Inkermann polyclinic, in Niort (Deux-Sèvres), will close its doors at the end of the year. The announcement was made official on Thursday, reports France Bleu Poitou.

The establishment is currently working with the Niort hospital to “ensure the continuity of care”.

“Closing a maternity ward is like closing a school”

“The maternity hospital in Niort can give birth to 1,800 and there we are at 1,500. We have 22 midwives, 17 childcare auxiliaries … The reception capacity we will have. And our technical services are in the process of setting up the creation of a new delivery room, ”explains Christophe Grimault, FO secretary at Niort hospital.

But this decision is not to everyone’s taste. “I have great grief for future mothers. They had made a choice to give birth at the clinic and they are no longer given a choice. Closing a maternity hospital is like closing a school, it does something, ”said Sandrine Fournier, secretary of the CGT of Deux-Sèvres in charge of health.
