The CHU obtains an extension of 80 million euros for its reconstruction

A Christmas present before its time. Engaged for several months in a vast reconstruction project, the Rennes University Hospital will benefit from additional aid of 80 million euros from the State. The announcement was made this Friday morning by Olivier Véran during a trip to Brest where the Minister detailed the Breton component of the Ségur of health.

This envelope is in addition to the 87 million euros that the Rennes hospital had already obtained in 2019, thus bringing state support to 167 million euros. Unveiled in 2017, this reconstruction project aims to modernize and bring together on the single site of Pontchaillou all the medical, surgical and obstetrical activities which are today split over five sites. By 2026, the South hospital will therefore leave the Blosne district to reach Pontchaillou where a new woman-mother-child building will be created.

An envelope of 855 million euros for Breton hospitals

The complete reconstruction of the Rennes University Hospital should end in 2029 with a project costing 761 million euros, against 535 million initially planned. “It will allow the CHU to consolidate the implementation of its medical and nursing project, to continue to develop its healthcare offer and to improve the response to public health issues in the metropolis, a region experiencing rapid demographic growth”, specifies the hospital establishment.
