Farmhouse Ale, the beer that was born in the Sacred Valley aged in Chardonnay barrels

After being aged for 9 months in Chardonnay barrels, a white wine from California, the beers from Sacred Valley Brewery they left to tour the country from their headquarters in Cusco.

This is the sixth edition of the Barricas del Valle series, a project of beers aged in barrels of various distillates and wines. This Farmhouse Ale (also known as Saison), is a classic style of beer of Belgian origin that was formerly served as compensation to workers who visited the farms at harvest time.

unique and unrepeatable

Being aged in oak barrels where the Chardonnay wine was previously aged, this beer has very special notes for the palate with the acidity typical of this wine that can be identified immediately. Keep in mind that the Chardonnay grape is a strain used to make white wines and champagne of great freshness and acidity. With a fruity aroma, intense gold color and a subtle bitterness at the end, this beer is ideal for pairing with fish, ceviches or salads, as recommended Juan Mayorga (Switzerland, 1981), founding partner of Sacred Valley Brewery.

“As in editions editions that we work with artists, this time he participated Juan Carlos Chavezalso known as Cake. He is an artist and a muralist,” Mayorga tells us from the Sacred Valley where he brews his craft beer. He tells us that for this edition Cake elaborated that beautiful label that adorns each bottle, of which there are only 500 copies, so getting one in Lima should be almost an obligation and thus be able to enjoy this unique and limited beer.

label art

Cake, who is also Mayorga’s neighbor in Cusco, designed a label of his own style: “The design has mountains on the label that are characteristic of the Sacred Valley. I put the Pitusiray, emblematic apu of the Valley, a typical little house, a farmland, but instead of plants I added beers”, because, finally, the beer has inputs that also came from the land. Lowito, his emblematic character, is present on the label, like a giant who “walks in the middle of the mountains in search of his beers.” In addition, this label has unique details such as an interpretation of the 7-color mountain, the Andean trilogy (puma, condor and snake) and other elements that will transport you to the place of origin of this beer.

“I found it an interesting experience because Valley Brewery it has had classic labels made by designers, but recently it is making labels with Peruvian artists. That seems good to me, because it shows the art of our country, new and old talents, and it is like a help to start exporting art to the world”, affirms the artist.

To enjoy this unique and Cusco beer, do not hesitate to order it on your social and local networks in Cusco and Lima.
