Isolina: how much does it cost to eat in the prestigious Creole tavern?

Eat, drink and have a good time. That is the spirit of isoline which is ranked 61st on the list of the Best Restaurants in Latin America 2022. José del Castillo’s proposal represents a double tribute: to his mother Isolina Vargas, teacher of Creole cuisine and guardian of the flavors of yesteryear, and to the taverns of yesteryear where one could have a drink or snack and chat with the customers.

With stews prepared for long hours, tasty dressings full of memories, refreshing chilcanos, frozen chela and the music of Chabuca Granda, Isolina becomes a meeting point for all those who like to eat deliciously around a good table.

The flavors of yesteryear are preserved and arrive at the table in generous platters, which are served in the center of the table so that each person can serve as many portions as they wish.

In 2015, this Creole tavern opened its doors in a Barranquina house, built in 1906, which reflects the spirit of a kitchen full of memories. This year, the chef opens a new location in Surco that maintains the essence.

The letter begins with the tickets that are between S/.23 and S/.83. For example, the little blood with fried sweet potato (S/.23) and the stuffed potato (S/.35). The highest priced dish is the fish cebiche with pork rinds (S/.83) which comes in a generous portion.

Then come 11 dishes in a personal portion that cost between S/.39 and S/.69. To try you have the arroz chaufa de lomo (S/.45), Italian tripe (S/.49), the liver with onion and tacu tacu (S/.59) and the osso buco stew (S/.69).

Some of these same dishes are repeated on the Isolina menu and come to the table in a large platter to share, such as cau cau with sangrecita (S/.54), lomo saltado (S/.74) and ribs a la chorrillana (S/.96).

They also have sandwiches: pejerrey, with marinade and butifarra (all at S/.24). Other classic dishes that are part of the menu are covered rice (S/.49) and liver steak, with onions and black bean tacu tacu (S/.79).

All 1-liter drinks (chicha morada, passion fruit and lemonade) cost S/.29. You also find water and soft drinks (S/.8) and beers (between S/.12 and S/.20). Cocktails (mostly pisco-based, but there are also drinks with tequila and rum) cost around S/. 32.

Remember to go in company since most of the letter is served in generous sources.
