There’s nothing worse than going on vacation after months of planning and building and getting sick.

Whether it’s eating something or catching a bug, being sick on vacation really is a disaster – especially if you spend your days with your head in a toilet bowl instead of taking in the sights.

But according to new research, some destinations appear to be doing this sooner than others.

The Forbes Advisor Travel Bug Index has identified the 25 global travel destinations where travelers are most likely to get sick.

To compile the data, Forbes evaluated more than 2.4 million Tripadvisor reviews using terms such as “salmonella,” “gastroenteritis,” “e-coli,” and “food poisoning.”

They then ranked the destinations in each category to create this Travel Bug Index Score on a scale of 0 to 100.

It seems that Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic takes the top spot as the top hotspot for travel fever, followed by Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt and Sal in Cape Verde in second and third respectively.

Close behind are two locations in Mexico – Playa del Carmen and Cabo San Lucas – and Bali is sixth.
