Reiwa Yakitori, the place in Barranco that gives prominence to Japanese skewers and their different presentations

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first gastronomic bet of Uchima and Julio Haruyama. Both are also owners of Reiwa Izakaya, a restaurant that we recommend on another occasion for its attention to detail, the incredible seasoning, and the concept they propose.

“Unlike what we have in the other space, we want to make yakitori known, which here is known as a dish that is part of the menu, but it is not considered a concept and we do want it to be,” adds Uchima. .

As they explain to us, in Japan yakitori is considered a different experience. It consists of a wheelbarrow that is in the street and that has a grill. “There they make small skewers of different ingredients that one asks for as a diner,” adds Haruyama.

Anticuchos come to mind, without a doubt, but with yakitori, which is mainly made from chicken, the aim is to take advantage of every part of the animal. For this reason, you can find heart, thigh, breast and even chicken skin skewers.

The most modern yakitori, precisely the one favored in this restaurant, seeks to experiment with other ingredients such as meat and vegetables.

Charcoal variety

This time it is not about making a list of the skewers that you can taste at Reiwa Yakitori, but rather recommending five options that we loved for their flavor, texture and cooking point. In short, the touch of charcoal provided by the grill is a vital ingredient.

One of the favorites of the night was the chicken meatball, which consists of a paste of this protein cooked on the grill and covered with tare (the house sauce with which each skewer is crowned). As the owners explain, it is served with a raw egg yolk, which gives it a delicious taste.

Another skewer that we loved was the chicken thigh with a touch of wasabi, intense in flavor without being inedible. We were pleasantly surprised by the chicken skin, which was crisp, with its smoky flavor and just the right amount of fat.

The pork belly is also a definite recommendation if you want to try an interesting mix of flavors. And finally, the bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes have a juicy and meaty combination that is not to be missed.

They have more than 20 skewers, even with only vegetables, and the dynamic is to order different skewers to share and snack with a drink or a good drink.

Takoyaki.

As if that were not enough, their menu also includes other delicacies to snack on or as main courses, in case there is still an appetite. In the case of the appetizers, we recommend the takoyaki, some dumplings stuffed with octopus that are fried and topped with okonomiyaki sauce, nori and katsuobushi, fish flakes.

If it is about funds, we prefer anagodon, a bowl of white rice with eel served with a sweet and delicious sauce. It’s an acquired taste, but worth trying even once. Another favorite is katsu care, which is breaded pork accompanied by Japanese curry and rice.
