In a beautiful setting that has the Piura River as a background, the Somos Piura 2023 gastronomic festival has been taking place. This event seeks to publicize the gastronomic and cultural wealth of the city, within the framework of the anniversary of its foundation. Advantage traveled to be part of this experience and here we recommend some delicious options that you can find there.

Antonio Padilla, general director of the fair, tells us that “We are Piura is to want to give the value it deserves (to the city) for all the gastronomic, tourist, cultural attractions, its traditions and the people it has.” He tells us that for this purpose, the organizers began to think about options and the idea of the gastronomic fair was chosen.

Thus, after a series of coordination and joint efforts, this event was created, which has more than 20 restaurants. They offer everything from traditional Piura food, such as cebiche, seco de chavelo, and chifles, to more contemporary proposals, featuring dishes such as makis, wings, and pizzas. You can also find drinks and desserts.

“The idea is that it is a proposal that can be replicated year after year and that can even be taken abroad. We started here because we want the same people from Piura to fall in love again with what is theirs, but we plan to continue growing”, adds Padilla.

You can also find crafts such as ceramics.

On his first day, Advantage He visited the Stewart Estate, where the event is being held, and we were able to taste some options.

Delicacies for all tastes

We start this culinary adventure trying a delicious noodle with turkey and chifles from La Martita. This family restaurant celebrates Piurana food with the precise touch to make each option a delicacy. The dish had just the right amount of stew to make the noodles flavorful, the turkey was cooked to perfection, and the chifles provide a crispy, unmissable texture.

We continue this journey by changing the type of food a bit and betting on makis. Tao’s version of the acevichado was perfect. The fish tasted fresh, the acevichada sauce had the right amount of lemon, the filling was generous and the amount of rice was prudent. The restaurant offers fusion food, so you can find delicacies such as chaufa or chijaukay.

We could not visit Piura and not eat a good ceviche. On this occasion, we tried the Peruviche brand. The portion was generous and, as usual, served with corn, sweet potato, cancha, and zarandajas. The pieces of fish were the perfect size and the Piura lemon is felt in each bite. This was one of our favorite dishes.

A good meal is always accompanied by a good dessert. In Somos Perú you can find various delicious sweets for all tastes, but we bet on picarones. Yes, we know, they are not a Piura creation, but El huarique del picarón gives it a northern touch with flavored honey. In addition to the classic fig, they have two options: passion fruit and plum mango, a regional fruit.

El Chalán, the classic ice cream parlor and cremoladeria, is also present at this gastronomic festival with its delicious cremoladas, popsicles and chocolates. We bet on enjoying two options that never fail: the passion fruit cremolada and the Kola, which imitates the red sodas of a lifetime. Sweet and reliable, they are the perfect alternative to appease the classic warmth of Piura.
