Mochis route: 5 alternatives to try the delicious Japanese sweet

These are 5 alternatives to try mochis in Lima:

1.okasan

Sandra Kamiyama and Jem Oshiro created this brand with the desire to spread their Japanese roots. That is why they chose the word okasan, which means “mother”, as their name. The mochis of this brand not only offer that homemade and maternal touch that remains etched in the memory, but also a careful presentation and originality in flavors that range from lucuma mousse with bitter chocolate to a refined pistachio cream with pecans.

“Our mochis are not like the traditional ones, we have created new flavors because we try to make Okasan a brand in which not only the dessert is good, but also the presentation. We take care of every detail because this is not just a brand, but a tribute to the maternal bond, to cultural fusion and to the passion for innovation”, explains Sandra Kamiyama. And, indeed, more than mochis, here you will find small works of art.

4.Mochii Donuts

They haven’t been in the Peruvian market for long, but it’s common to see long lines at their store on Av. Aviación. The reason? The peculiar combination that they have achieved between two very popular sweets: mochi and donuts. By using rice flour as a base for their recipes, they also achieve a lighter yet healthier texture.

“It was during one of my trips to Japan that I came across a revelation: Mochii Donuts, a highly prized culinary treasure there. We decided to experiment with this wonder at home, and what started as a simple test with friends and family became a shared passion. Our Mochii Donuts conquered the palates of those who were lucky enough to try them. What touched us the most was the joy they experienced in enjoying each bite, knowing that they were savoring a lighter and healthier delight.” says Shang Long Dai, a Chinese citizen who, together with his Peruvian wife Valentina Chen Zeng, started this venture.

Thus, on July 23 of this year, this business was born that hopes to become a classic. It is worth mentioning that in addition to mochi donuts, at Mochii Donuts they also sell mochis in their traditional format.
