Izakaya, the ‘point’ on Av. Aviación for fans of Japanese food, renewed its menu and we give you our recommendations

Upon arriving at Izakaya, the peculiar greeting brightens the entrance: you hear an ‘irasshaimase’, a Japanese word that means ‘welcome’ and it already makes you feel at home. We are welcomed by itamae Bruce Álvarez, who, true to his charismatic style, tells us about the renovations they considered necessary to offer a new experience to the public, but of course, without losing its essence.

“Izakaya has always been managed traditionally, we wanted everything to be like in Japan. Now we want to innovate with our fusion bar, in order to attract new customers. We mix Peruvian and Japanese flavors, but always maintaining the traditional base in the preparation, in the ingredients, way of assembly, cuts,” explains Álvarez.

Izakaya’s itamae guides us through a culinary adventure, full of flavors in every bite. We start our route with powerful Udon, which is a kombu broth with pork and kamaboko. Without a doubt, the texture is what is distinctive about this dish, the soft noodles could only be described as peculiar and unique.

Curry, very traditional in Japanese cuisine, could not be missing. For this reason, a dish of the stew accompanied with rice and chicken schnitzel: the katsukare, which brought the memory home, its forcefulness and flavor made it one of our favorites.

The inescapable thing in fusion food

A classic when we talk about fusion are the makis, which bathed in an acevichada sauce are the safe bet for any Peruvian palate that wants to conquer. And the acidic touch mixed with the freshness of the ingredients that Izakaya offers, causes an addictive effect. If you like spicy, you can opt for the spicy maki.

“The young public gets along very well with fusion food, they venture into this type of dishes, so they opt for a sushi burger, some wings in the different sauces we have, makis. These new bets with intense flavors capture your attention,” says the Izakaya itamae.

However, if you are one of those who do not dare to experiment with new flavors or it is your first time eating Japanese food, Álvarez recommends ordering chicken or pork yakimeshi, a dish with a preparation similar to the traditional chifa chaufa, but which does not have The same flavor as faithful Japanese style, makes it fluffier and moister.

On our tour of the restaurant we also passed through the tatami area, a place where you can eat like in a real Japanese house. This space is very traditional in oriental culture and there you can enjoy your food sitting in the position called ‘seiza’.

“In addition to the more modern image that we seek to have in Izakaya, we also want the people who come to feel at home, more comfortable, that is why we added the tatami, which everyone can use, we feel that it is a place that attracts a lot of attention and that completes the Japanese experience,” concludes Álvarez.
