Airplane manners are a hot topic (Photo: Getty)

Airplane etiquette is important.

It is important to be stuck in a small space for hours and go to the toilet alone. We do everything we can to make the experience enjoyable for ourselves and everyone else.

And now the ultimate travel mistake appears to have been exposed after a TikToker said this particular faux pas should be illegal.

Daniel Bennett, also known as @dxnielbennett on social platforms, explained that the easiest way to spot a good person on a plane is to “see where he stashed his luggage” when he first boards .

“If they put their carry-on luggage in the overhead compartment and their personal items – such as a backpack or purse – under the seat, they are being a good person and aware of their surroundings,” he explained in the clip.

Instead, he argued that travelers who store small personal items in overhead compartments are the “worst kind of people” because these compartments are only intended for carry-on luggage.

It irritates Daniel so much that he wrote “Straight to jail” in the caption.

The response to the video was huge, with the 30-second clip being viewed more than six million times and attracting more than 4,500 comments.

“Nothing makes me SEE more than a small object above our heads,” one person wrote on TikTok.

Meanwhile, some viewers added that they even saw flight attendants stopping travelers from placing personal items in overhead bins.

“I love it when a flight attendant takes out small items, hands them back to the owner and puts my carry-on in,” said one TikToker.

However, another opinion was also shared, with many defensive people choosing to place small objects above their heads.

“An unpopular opinion, but as long as they have a backpack (not hand luggage), it can be thrown in the trash,” said a lawyer.

It looks like the story of proper airplane etiquette continues.
