Grape

This is one of the foods that is part of the oldest New Year’s traditions. The idea is to consume twelve grapes during the first twelve bells of the year that has just begun. Eating this fruit as a symbol of good fortune began to become popular in Spain in 1909, the year in which the country had a very good grape harvest, these grapes were baptized as the “lucky grape.”

Lemon

There is an old belief that lemons are used for cleaning and this is also used during the New Year. The idea is to place quartered lemons in all corners of the house, in this way the family is protected from bad vibes. The lemons will be removed when they begin to dry.

Lentils

Grains are usually a symbol of abundance, this happens with lentils, the favorite food of people who believe in Kabbalah. What you should do with lentils is place them in strategic places such as wallets, purses or pockets, even in the bags that you use daily. Some people prepare small cloth bags and put them inside, so that they can carry the lentils everywhere. This tradition began in Italy, where they used to give bags of lentils to loved ones.
