Six of the bravest cebicherias to visit this summer

THE POPULAR

Betsi Albornoz welcomes us into her home and kitchen: El Populacho, a cebichería that was consolidated for its generous seasoning and good management of ingredients. The marine menu (supplied directly from the fishing terminal) offers a mix of dishes, adding new entries to the public’s favorites. Among the first we have the causa, the fish ceviche and the leche de tigre (all of them can come in a personal or family version). As a novelty for the season, the chef invites us to try the olive and charcoal-grilled octopus. Is she craving something else? The seafood cau cau and Capón rice are also a must. Since its opening in 2017, wines have been an important part of the establishment. Accompany the meal with one of the Peruvian wines on the menu.

THE CONCHUDOS

They quickly became popular thanks to the freshness of their dishes (and on the networks). This huarique pays ode to the Peruvian concha through different dishes: tiradito de conchas de abanico, conchitas de abanico a la chalaca, rice with conchas de abanico or its ceviche conchudo (fish, conchas de afanico and choros). They have added one in Chorrillos to their location in Surquillo, which will be a reason to visit them.

Address: Jr. San Pedro 313, Surquillo / Av. Defensores del Morro 2270, Chorrillos.

THE GOLDEN LOBSTER

In the markets you always eat delicious food. Each one will have their favorite stall and their landlord who serves them with their yapa. For more than 30 years, Luis Velásquez has been conquering the residents of Los Olivos with this place dedicated to marine specialties. In the late 80’s, he started selling seafood ceviche in Ventanilla and, over time, he moved to surprise a new audience with his seasoning. He orders his emblematic leche de tigre (accompanied with yucca, canchita and chicharrón de pota) or his trio (cebiche, rice with seafood and chicharrón). Be careful, at stall 7 they serve cold dishes (their variety of ceviches) and in front they prepare hot ones (jalea, parihuela, sudado). Advantage!

Address: Covida Market – Post 7 and 13. Av. Antunez de Mayolo 1178, Los Olivos.

THE SEA KING

Over 25 years, they have known how to innovate to continue surprising diners. Thus, we find creations such as the ‘marriage’ (tirado a la chalaca topped with crab pulp) or the seafood volcano (olive rice bathed in Stroganoff sauce with seafood, accompanied by fish skewers). In its extensive menu we find something for all tastes: rice, ceviche, tacu tacus, soups, grills, whole fish… In addition, on Fridays and Saturdays they open at night with a tasty proposal of seafood snacks and house cocktails.

JACKILI’S BAR

All the beautiful people must already know Jackili Fernández for her nice videos on social networks. And if not, this is your chance. The young woman from Ayacucho – passionate about ceviches – is quite an entrepreneur who, with effort and tenacity, opened 3 locations of her ceviche bars. What to try? If you go in a group, don’t miss the ‘Titanic ship’ (you’ve probably seen it on TikTok) which includes causa, ceviche, more than 5 varieties of seafood dishes, chicha and beer. Causas, ceviches and rice are also popular.

Address: Av. Gregorio Séptimo 170, San Martín de Porres / Av. Guardia Republicana 1118, Rímac / Av. 28 de Julio 1275, Miraflores.

THE QUINTA 615

Ancón is still suffering the consequences of the spill of more than 10 thousand barrels of oil into the Peruvian sea; Faced with this, we seek to support local ventures like Aldo Espinoza’s. His restaurant is already an emblem of the district. We start the visit with some fan shells with yellow chili cream, we continue with a silverside ceviche and from there we go to the specialties where the pastas stand out such as seafood risotto and crab pulp cannelloni with spicy seafood.

Address: Jirón Loreto 615 Ancón, one block from the headquarters of the Judiciary.
