Square croissant, the sweet that went viral and where to find it in Lima

Watching Tik Tok is craving the viral and delicious bites we see in each video. From mango with tagine to mochi donuts, these bites are slowly coming to our capital to stay. This is what happened with the square (or cube-shaped) croissants that I found at Panea, a brand dedicated to pastries and bakeries with stores in Surquillo and Miraflores. Advantage We visited the one located on Tarata Street, with a comfortable terrace, where we tried some of their creations.

Panea was born in April 2020, in the middle of the pandemic. “The pandemic caught us and cut short a trip we had to work. Eduardo tried to make bread at home, to try it out, and that’s how we started,” Maya recalls.

They began to like the breads they prepared and the brand began, but as a proposal based on orders. Little by little, orders increased and space in delivery mobility ran out. The menu began with peasant breads, 700 gr loaves. approximately.

First they opened their workshop in Surquillo, in 2022, where orders can also be picked up. A year later, they decided to open a space on Tarata Street. Now, they have this cozy space with a charming terrace, where you can sit and enjoy a well-designed menu with sweet and savory options. By the way, share with your pet, being a local pet friendly.

The letter

Without a doubt, croissant cubes are the new favorites thanks to the curious shape. On the sides you can see the beautiful spiral characteristic of this type of dough. We tried the pistachio and raspberry version. It comes with a pistachio-flavored pastry cream filling and a raspberry jelly that balances the sweetness. It is an addictive dessert, well prepared and with flavors that complement each other perfectly.

“Our first bucket (of croissant) was for July and it was a Lima-style sigh. It had the classic delicacy and port meringue on top. It seems innovative to us, but there were many people who didn’t even look at it. Now they notice them more, we have even seen that other bakeries and spaces also opt for these cubes,” says Solmayra.

One of the favorites on the pastry menu is the candied orange and pistachio roll. Also, you can’t miss the pain au chocolat and the classic croissant. If you are one of those who prefers a salty appetizer, Panea offers a succulent cheese and bacon croix, with a very well prepared béchamel base sauce. You can also find croix stuffed with smoked sausage.

When it comes to sourdough breads, they offer regular and olive baguettes, as well as rye and Andean seeds, turmeric, cheese and olives, and rye and whole wheat bread. You can also find two types of focaccia, a seed bread and other curiosities for which it is worth visiting their premises and learning more about their proposal.
