the mayor of Grigny Xavier Odo victim of an “abject aggression”

Mayor of Grigny (Rhône), Xavier Odo has just revealed on his Facebook account to have been the victim Thursday of an “abject attack on the market place” of Grigny, in the company of two municipal agents and another elected official. “An individual, who had already committed damage and assaults before, arrested me while I was talking with residents, says the mayor on the right. I was beginning to dialogue with this individual when suddenly, for no apparent reason, he violently punched me in the face. This individual, who was carrying a knife, then insulted us and threatened to kill us. »

A “gratuitous physical assault” which was quickly interrupted by the intervention of municipal agents, then the municipal police, who arrested the author of the blow to the face. Re-elected in March 2020 in this commune of the metropolis of Lyon, Xavier Odo had already received death threats in October 2020.

“A new milestone has been reached in the unacceptable”

“It is unfortunately not the first time that the mayor of Grigny has suffered this kind of attack, recalls in a press release Isabelle Gautelier, first deputy mayor of Grigny. But the rise in power of these attacks is alarming. Indeed, previously the victim of tags at his own home, insults and death threats, a new milestone has been reached in the unacceptable, with a physical attack. »

“I expect justice to do its job to protect municipal officials, citizens and elected officials, victims of the excesses of a small number of individuals, often unfavorably known to the police”, concludes Xavier Odo. Several politicians support him this Friday, including the mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet.
