He will have missed 50 votes to obtain an absolute majority and overthrow the Borne government. Unsurprisingly, the National Assembly rejected this Monday evening the motion of censure of the left-wing coalition Nupes on the draft budget 2023, to which the RN gave its support.
The motion garnered 239 votes out of the 289 needed. It was brought by the Nupes after the use of article 49.3 by the executive. Recourse to this article allows the adoption of a law without a vote.
The motion of censure of the RN far from the account
The deputies also voted on the motion of Marine Le Pen’s group. The text only gleaned 90 votes, far from an absolute majority. The rejection of this motion leads to the adoption of the revenue side of the 2023 budget at first reading.
RN like Nupes described an atmosphere of “end of reign” with the use of 49.3. The opposition criticizes the government for “sweeping” amendments voted by the Assembly, in particular the increase in the taxation of “superdividends”, proposed by the MoDem, a member of the majority.
Since 1958, the date of the creation of the Fifth Republic, only a motion of censure has succeeded.
