Popularity ratings of Emmanuel Macron and Elizabeth Bourne have fallen

The effect of the pension reform? The President of the Republic and the Prime Minister conduct a survey. The popularity ratings of Emmanuel Macron and Elisabeth Bourne fell 2 and 4 points respectively in January amid pension reform, according to an Ifop* poll for the Sunday newspaper.

34% of those polled say they are satisfied with the performance of the head of state, according to this monthly barometer, which adds up to 7 points since his re-election in April 2022. It is also the lowest level for Emmanuel Macron since February 2020, on the eve of the Covid-19 crisis and again in the tense conditions of pension reform.

Elizabeth Bourne sees her rating drop to 32% positive reviews, her worst result since joining Matignon, the public services headquarters.

On January 10, the prime minister presented the government’s pension reform plan, which was due to be approved by the Council of Ministers on Monday before being presented in parliament at the end of the month. The text provides, inter alia, for the deferment of the statutory age of departure from 62 to 64 years.

* The survey was conducted online and by phone from 12 to 19 January among a sample of 1963 people representing the population of France aged 18 years and over, using a quota method with an error of 1 to 2.3 points.
