US: Joe Biden to sign executive order expanding access to contraceptives

Joe Biden will sign the first executive order to protect and expand access to contraceptives. This guarantees access to all FDA-approved contraceptives for women with private health insurance under the Obamacare Act.

“Last year, women were denied essential medical care to keep them healthy and even save their lives,” the White House said in a statement. “President Biden and Vice President Harris join the majority of Americans who consider choice fundamental and have spoken out at every opportunity since the Supreme Court decision.”

Last year, the Supreme Court ruled overturning the landmark 1973 Roe v. USA decision. Wade, who guaranteed the constitutional right to abortion and left it to the discretion of each state. Several conservative states then banned abortion, forcing clinics to close hastily or move to areas where they could still operate.

According to a study by the Planned Parenthood Society, the average number of abortions per month nationwide between July 2022 and March 2023 was 79,031, down 3.3% from April and May 2022, when the average number of abortions was 81,730. per month.
