On July 14, 358 people were awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor. Among them is the journalist Armand Soldin, who was killed in Ukraine on May 9. Several resistance fighters, politicians and artists were also awarded. Details in our article.

Meeting between army and civilians

Like every year, the army organizes a PR operation in different places in Paris. The Les Invalides organizes “dynamic demonstrations, presentations and static exhibitions of vehicles, aircraft and helicopters,” the Ministry of the Armed Forces said in a statement. In addition, from 10:00 to 18:00 “the army and the Paris fire brigade will combine their manpower and material resources in the Place de la Nation, the navy will be present in the forecourt of the Hôtel de Ville and Air and Space. The forces will be deployed in the André Citroen Park.”

Parade program

Emmanuel Macron will arrive at Avenue de Friedland, which leads to the Arc de Triomphe, around 10 am. The honors are returned to him at 10:15 am at the Place de la Concorde. The passage starts at 10:33. Parade in India at 10:44. French troops follow. At 11.29 am the helicopters will be paraded one by one. At 11:33, and then at 11:47, motorized troops will come into their own, then cavalry. Emmanuel Macron’s departure is scheduled for 12:05.

Tradition and renewal

“The parade is both a traditional exercise and a constant renewal,” recalls an adviser to the Elysee Palace, the residence of the French president. This year it brings together 6,500 participants, including 5,100 foot soldiers, more than 60 aircraft, 28 helicopters, 157 armored vehicles, 62 motorcycles and 200 Republican Guard horses.
