Undocumented workers: the majority is divided around the regularization platform

If the forum managed to unite about thirty parliamentarians from MoDem to EELV, this raises questions among the majority. So did the president of the Horizons group in the National Assembly, Laurent Marcangeli, who distanced himself on Wednesday from the approach of Renaissance MP Sacha Houllier, who signed the text. The deputy considered that the “balance of the majority” could be “damaged” by an initiative of this kind.

“This type of initiative, in the difficult times we are going through, when a relative majority adheres to complex and flammable texts in public opinion, could jeopardize the mandate as a whole,” Marcangeli told AFP. Because the balance of the majority may be upset. »

“There is no history in this country that can be written with the left.”

The Chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Assembly, together with 34 other parliamentarians from Renaissance, MoDem, PS, PCF and EELV, signed an article published on Monday in Libération, which takes a position in favor of the legalization of illegal workers in stressful professions, hoping to counter the unraveling of the text under pressure from the Republic of Lithuania.

The text caused surprise even among representatives of the Renaissance group. “This operation seems more likely to jeopardize the passage of the bill than anything else. In this country it is impossible to write history together with the left,” Renaissance MP and former LR MP Robin Reda told the Le Figaro newspaper, calling for this text to “seek a royal coalition with the LR”. Benjamin Haddad, a representative of the Renaissance group, gave an interview to the Le Figaro newspaper: “We must not confuse the message. The French are demanding a policy of firmness and clarity on immigration issues. The text provides for strict measures against double punishment, offenses abroad, and applications for asylum. Topics where we can move forward with LR.”
