Senate elections: with the election of David Rosa, mayor of Orsay, Essonne’s left gains ground

The wait lasted until the very end for the allocation of the fifth Senate seat in Essonne. Everything was played out with eight votes; it had to be recounted. Ultimately, Jean-Raymond Hugonet, invested by LR, barely passed, denying the left second place. But the event of the evening is that the left has regained its seat in the Senate, even though it lost everything in 2017.

Mayor David Ros (PS), mayor of Orsay (17,000 inhabitants) will therefore return to the Senate. The elected official must resign as mayor. On this Sunday evening he was warmly congratulated by his candidates for the post of vice-president and by the many elected officials present in the prefecture for the counting of votes and the announcement of the results. “I am divided: both are proud to be in the Senate, but disappointed that we failed to come in second place. The LFI – Nupes list has caused confusion. I will have to increase my efforts tenfold to continue to work with all the components of the left involved in this campaign over time. »

Four of the five outgoings were re-elected

Otherwise, four of the five retiring members were re-elected. Only Daphne Rak-Madu (MoDeM), the presidential majority candidate, did not retain her seat. She took over the post of Olivier Leonard (ex-PS) after the latter’s death in February 2022.

Vincent Delahaye and Jocelyne Guides (UDI) again won this election. “We accomplished our two tasks: to take first place and retain two places,” the senator rejoices. This shows our strong presence in the department and that we represent many elected officials. »

On the right were two lists marked LR. Laura Darkos took the lead in this fight from the forehand: “There are a lot of emotions,” she reveals. I traveled around Esson for six years, I saw many elected officials, and many of them told me that I was the one who helped them the most in difficult situations and was the closest to them. We will all meet in the Senate to work in harmony, including David Ros. » Jean-Raymond Hugonet, who topped the list in 2017 and Laura Darcos was second, was also re-elected.
