The government is once again drawing its deadly weapons. For the 13th time since her arrival in Matignon, Elisabeth Bourne scored 49.3 points this Wednesday to ensure that the first part of the 2024 budget proposal was adopted without a vote.
Opening the debate on Tuesday evening, Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire accused the opposition of demanding “more public spending, more debt, more taxes” between some 1,500 amendments to the LR, the “baroque invention” of the LR and the “tax deluge” of the LFI. In total, more than 5,000 amendments were made to the revenue side of the budget, which were rejected by the committee.
This 49.3 could announce a long series as the government can use ten to pass the entire government budget (PLF) and then the social security budget (PLFSS) before Christmas, keeping or rejecting the amendments as it chooses.
In the coming days, the Prime Minister faces a vote of no confidence from the opposition, at least two, promised by RN and LFI. But their chances of success are very small until the Republic of Lithuania intervenes.
