Anti-Semitic actions: Gerard Larcher and Yael Braun-Pivet call for a “big march” on Sunday

The President of the National Assembly and the President of the Senate stand together against anti-Jewish hatred. Yael Braun Pivet and Gerard Larcher called on Tuesday for “all those who recognize the values of our Republic” to take part in a “great civic march” against anti-Semitism on Sunday.

“March for the Republic and against anti-Semitism. March for France for human rights and for one nation. Civil march to condemn hate speech media. March for the release of hostages, including eight of our compatriots,” they wrote in a column published in the newspaper Le Figaro, where they condemned the rise in anti-Semitic acts in France following the October 7 Hamas massacre in Israel.

Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally (RN), immediately announced on Tuesday that they would take part in the march.

Explosion of anti-Semitic actions

The first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, has already called for a rally on Sunday of “all political forces” against this explosion. But this idea was poorly received by some of the left, especially Insumi, due to the possible presence of RN. “Personally, I will never go to a demonstration with the National Rally,” said Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

These initiatives come amid a rapid increase in anti-Semitic acts in France since October 7. In less than a month, authorities have noted 1,040 attacks against Jews in the territory, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said Sunday evening. Those actions led to 486 arrests, he said.

Hatred, the victim of which was the President of the National Assembly, Yael Brown Pivet. The Yvelines MP filed the complaint on Friday after receiving an anti-Semitic letter, Le Parisien newspaper reported on Saturday.

This is the “23rd or 24th complaint” filed this year by Yael Brown Pivet, his associates told us.
