11 November: 105th anniversary of the Armistice, ceremony presided over by Emmanuel Macron.

November 11 celebrates and commemorates several events this year. As always, this is an opportunity to celebrate the Armistice that marked the end of the First World War (1914-1918). Since 2012, he has also paid tribute to “all those who died for France”. This Saturday we are adding the 100th anniversary of the fire of the Unknown Soldier.

The flame was first lit by War Minister Andre Maginot in 1923. For a hundred years, the “patriotic and popular” vigil has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Franceinfo learned this week. It is planned to last 45 minutes. A light and sound show will be organized on the Arc de Triomphe.

On Saturday morning, President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron prayed in front of a statue of Georges Clemenceau. Then he must relight the flame, lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and greet the veterans. He is also due to speak and pay tribute to three French soldiers who died in Iraq over the summer.

Personalities in attendance included Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivet, Senate President Gérard Larcher and Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu.
