The mayor of Neuilly begins his campaign for the European elections at home

At home at the Sablon theater, the mayor (DVD) of Neuilly Jean-Christophe Fromentin presented this Wednesday evening in front of 150 people the election campaign for the Notre-Europe list for the June 2024 elections. this candidacy, which will take the form of a list of elected officials and local leaders.

“By mobilizing locally, we want this list to be embodied by those who act every day in the service of France, to promote a Europe that is both rooted and strong enough to face the challenges at stake on a global scale,” summarizes the mayor of Neuilly. which has already stated that it does not intend to sit in Brussels.

At the moment it is mainly a question of method and convergence. On the first point, the goal is very clear: there can be no question of a list of tenors “to be reset”, as most political parties do every six years. And to represent the territories, the mayor of Neuilly decided to cross France by bicycle from Nantes to Strasbourg.

The trip was put on hold after a councilor in his town was hit by a cyclist in late October. In a few days he will be able to mount again and head to Chinon (Indre-et-Loire) to meet the winemakers. Which, until December 8, will have to comply with new European rules regarding bottle labeling.

Regarding convergence, the mayor of Neuilly has already rallied to his side – based on the values promoted by Robert Schumann, one of the founding fathers of Europe – some parliamentarians of the Lyot group (Libertés, Indépendants, Overseas and territories), as well as the deputy from Guadeloupe Olivier Servat, present this Wednesday evening. “We share the same vision of the importance of territories. Therefore, there is logic in uniting and making Europe more useful,” he says.

Hervé Marcel, President of UDI, made the trip.

Another important presence is the Haute-Seine senator Hervé Marcel, president of the UDI and the Union Centriste group, at the Luxembourg Palace. However, Renaissance is already approaching him with a request to draw up a common list for Europeans. “Jean-Christophe Fromentin is one of the rare politicians in this country who thinks,” says Hervé Marcel mischievously, arguing for “more Europe, but above all, a better Europe.”

“Mayor Neuilly’s thinking is correct,” he continues. To be a candidate in the European elections, it is necessary to have a local mandate, we must restore ties with the territories.” The opinion held by Jean-Baptiste Moreau, former LREM deputy for Creuse and farmer for at least a few more months, is also presented this Wednesday.

“The problem with European MPs is that we never see them in the field between two elections,” estimates the man, who is still the municipal councilor of a small village of 400 inhabitants. So the European Union is offline. In the field that I know best, which is the world of agriculture, we have to recognize that it doesn’t change at the speed of social media.”
