Presidential elections 2027: a joint candidacy of the left is “prepared”, assures Marine Tondelier

Such an alliance would be the hope for a victory for the left, but there is still a long way to go. A joint candidacy from the left for the 2027 presidential elections is “prepared”, despite Nupes’ separate lists for the 2024 European elections, Marine Tondelier, national secretary of Euroecology Les Verts, said in an interview with Le Figaro newspaper on Wednesday.

“A lot of things are being prepared, including a project and a joint candidacy for the 2027 presidential elections. There are a huge number of us among the left and among environmentalists who want this,” said Marine Tondelier. “Whatever happens to the Europeans, see you at the start of the 2024 school year,” she added.

Separate lists for Europeans

In the next European elections, the various formations of the Nupes party will present separate lists, much to the disappointment of the newspaper La France insoumise, which wanted to have a common list of the left, as was the case during the 2022 legislative elections.

“I hope that after the European elections we will restore the alliance between the left and the environmentalists, on a different balance of power (compared to the 2022 presidential elections, editor’s note) that was in the European elections,” the head of the European Union announced on Monday list of environmentalists for Europeans Marie Toussaint.

A joint left candidacy is seen by many as the left’s only hope of winning the 2027 elections, even if its contours are yet to be determined. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who has already stood for the presidency three times, for example, is strongly opposed to the left-wing primaries, while the communist Fabien Roussel has already made it clear that he wants to run again for the Elysee Palace.
