“The Olympics will be in 200 days, and they will start now”: a message from Emmanuel Macron

“The Olympics are in 200 days, and they start now.” In a video posted early Monday morning on various social media platforms, the President of the Republic sends a message just over six months before the start of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The head of state especially notes the efforts to organize the Games, which do not pollute the environment too much. “We are going to host France’s lowest-carbon Olympic and Paralympic Games in history, green games that respect the Paris Accords” signed in 2015, which aim to keep global warming below 2°C and aim for the maximum level. +1.5°C compared to the pre-industrial era.

Emmanuel Macron, appearing on camera in boxing gear, also insists on women’s place in the competition: “We are going to have equal Games in which there will be as many athletes as there are women athletes. »

The President also emphasizes the more French aspect of the event, mentioning “more than 70 local authorities who will take part in the organization.” “We will hold the Games throughout the country, from Paris to Marseille via Tahiti. »

He also mentions France’s sporting ambitions, which “will have exceptional Olympic and Paralympic delegations and, I hope, many French medals.” He then took the opportunity to send a message to all French people. “For this purpose, this year we have a great national cause – sport. We made 30 minutes of sports compulsory in elementary school and more sports in middle school,” he recalls. “I invite you all to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, more if you can, but at least 30 minutes a day because it is good for your health and for many things. And this is also a way of conducting the Games that will remain in our daily practice. »
