Ursula von der Leyen is ready to return to the post of President of the European Commission

Will she finally get out of the forest? Ursula von der Leyen could announce herself as a candidate for reappointment for another five years as head of the European Commission during a trip to Berlin this Monday, February 19. At the same time, it should receive the anointing of the European People’s Party (EPP, Conservatives), which will meet at a congress in Bucharest (Romania) on March 6 and 7. Without a credible rival, dubbed by her own political family, which this time again has a commanding lead in next June’s European elections, the German is moving ahead as the big favorite to succeed her.

However, the candidacy of former minister Angela Merkel has one drawback. The one whose face has represented the European Green Deal (the famous Green Deal) since the end of 2019, that ambitious program designed to put Europe on the path to carbon neutrality in 2050, is it weakened by being in the four corners of the planet? Old continent, Brussels’ climate standards are being called into question?
