“Today we celebrate the victory of French women, feminist associations and women around the world,” rejoices Nina Merigue, lawyer at the Women’s Fund. This victory is the inclusion in the Constitution of the “guaranteed freedom” of voluntary termination of pregnancy.
The 925 parliamentarians assembled in the Congress at Versailles were called upon to enshrine abortion in the fundamental text (eventually 780 voted for it). The Women’s Foundation, which is organizing a live broadcast of the event at Trocadero, has no doubt about the outcome of the vote, and with the session barely opening, it is already time for celebration. “It’s a great joy to be here in a symbolic place to celebrate this historic victory,” says Margot, 25, a law intern at the Women’s Fund.
