Europeans: for Rima Hasan, “Israel is worse than Russia” in terms of compliance with international law

Rebellious France’s European election candidate Rima Hassan on Sunday backed pro-Palestinian mobilizations by some students who are “simply asking that there be no double standards” on international law, even though she said “Israel is worse than Russia.”

“When Russia invaded Ukraine, this academic community made (…) very important and very quick statements and commitments (…) regarding the sanctions that should be taken against Russia. The students are simply asking that there be no double standards,” the 32-year-old French-Palestinian lawyer told BFMTV.

“Russia and Israel are the same thing? “, they ask him. “Israel is worse than Russia,” she replies. And when a journalist asks her if October 7 was between Russia and Ukraine, she continues: “For the Palestinians it was worse than October 7.”

According to her, for the Palestinians, the occupation of the territories lasts “about fifty years.”

Support for mobilized students

“United Nations resolutions, United Nations reports on Israeli violations of international law have been documented for decades. So this is even worse (…) in terms of accountability and in terms of violations of international law, (…) and documenting the crimes committed,” she said.

“Students rightly ask that there be no double standards. That is, we adopted sanctions against the Russian regime, which violated international law. We demand sanctions against the Israeli state, which today violates international law and which does so after (…) the Oslo agreements. (…) I encourage them to continue their commitments effectively,” she said.

Nauk-po and other institutions of higher learning have been the scene of student mobilization in favor of the Palestinian cause for several days.

The Palestinian Dauphine Committee invited Rima Hassan to take part in a conference on the “threat of genocide in Gaza” on Monday. Banned by the establishment’s management, it was finally sanctioned by administrative justice in an order issued on Saturday.
