Costa Rica denies that two soccer players have played infected with Covid-19 against Jamaica

The Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) denied that two players infected with Covid-19 played this Wednesday’s game as visitors against Jamaica and stated that it complied with FIFA protocol.

The FCRF indicated in a statement that it wishes to clarify the situation “before the statements issued by authorities of the Jamaican Football Federation, where they assured that two of our selected players played while being positive for Covid-19″.

The Federation explained that “The entire delegation came out negative in the test carried out on Monday, January 31 in Mexico, with which they entered Jamaica and complied with the FIFA protocol that requires a negative PCR test no more than 72 hours before the game”.

On Tuesday, the delegation underwent another PCR test required by the Government of Jamaica and the results were delivered on Wednesday, hours before the match, and in which a soccer player and three administrative officials of the Federation marked positive, who were isolated and They must comply with quarantine in the Caribbean country.

The Federation explained that two other soccer players recently recovered from covid-19 also tested positive.

All the documentation was presented proving that the other two players who scored positive were recovered cases with less than 25 days of having had a positive result for covid-19. Therefore, based on the existing regulation and based on the documentation presented by the Costa Rican Soccer Federation, both FIFA and Concacaf authorized the participation of said players.”, clarified the FCRF.
