The Egyptian team got their place in the final of the African Cup of Nations, after beating Cameroon (3-1) in a penalty shootout. The victory of the ‘Pharaohs’ came largely thanks to the performance of goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal, better known as Gabaski, who excelled with two saves.

The Egyptian goalkeeper who plays for his country’s Zamalek, with very good reflexes, denied the cry to Harold Moukoudi and James Lea Siliki, who were in charge of the second and third launch, respectively, of the Cameroonians in the semifinal bracket.

Once the triumph of Mohamed Salah and company was completed, a series of images came to light in which it is seen that Gabaski was helped by the information he had on papers stuck in a bottle of water, just before the penalty kicks. The image, of course, became popular.

Gabaski’s saves are no longer an act of luck for Egypt, which days ago enjoyed starting their goalkeeper due to the injury of the first-round starter, Mohamed El Shenawy. So, Gabaski’s appearance in the penalty shootout was providential and he has held his own as a guaranteed goalkeeper.

Egypt vs. Senegal, for the title

Now, Senegal already has a rival. He will face the ‘Pharaohs’ next Sunday at the Paul Biya stadium in Yaoundé. They will fight for the title against a team that already knows what it is like to win the Africa Cup of Nations and that struggled to get through the round in a duel that could perfectly have been an early final.

Both Cameroon and Egypt fought relentlessly to get out of the semi-finals. Twelve trophies were displayed on the pitch, five from Cameroon and seven from Egypt. Almost nothing. Two giants of African football face to face and in a deafening atmosphere favorable to the host, who during the first half went over his rival.
