Wayne Rooney played for many years in elite soccer with great performance, however, his celebrations and smiles on the soccer fields hid moments of great pressure when he was alone.

In an interview with the English program ‘Mail on Sunday’, Wayne admitted that during his time as a footballer, he took refuge in alcohol: “Managing everything that was in the press, managing my relationship with the coach (Alex Ferguson) at the time, managing my family, was very difficult”.

“There were times when I would have several days off and I would lock myself in just to drink and forget all about it. Locking myself up only made me forget some problems I had. drank excessively”.

“I made many mistakes when I was young, some were in the press and others were not”added Rooney, who won many local tournaments and a Champions League in his successful spell at Manchester United.

Wearing a Red Devils jersey, Rooney scored 253 goals, becoming Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer, overtaking Bobby Charlton, who held first place for several decades.

Currently, Rooney is 36 years old and has found a new path in his career, as manager of Derby, a club that is going through financial problems that threaten the near future of the entity.
