Silvestri, manager of Cantolao, on the defeat against Universitario: “The result is out of context”

The Cantolao Academy could not have a good start in the 2022 Opening Tournament: it was beaten 0-3 at home by Universitario. Despite the crushing defeat, coach Carlos Silvestri highlighted some aspects in his direction at a press conference and assured that “the result is out of context due to the reality of the match”.

“I’m annoyed with the marker. Really, we had high expectations before the match. During the development, in the first 10 or 15 minutes, Universitario came out as we thought, to press, to play long, to divide a little, but we neutralized them. At the end of the first half, the expulsion conditions us”, initially explained the DT.

“The stakeout had been pretty good, until the second red card put everything uphill for us, as much as we tried to group the team together, we had to sacrifice a striker to put in a winger. So it was difficult to maintain. For me, the result is out of context due to the reality of the match”, added the strategist.

In the same way, Carlos Silvestri regretted that the initial planning could not last 90 minutes: “We would have liked our idea to have been sustained in this first presentation. After the first expulsion we used another strategy, which still worked. Unfortunately, the final development detracts from the effort, but I saw Cantolao fighting until the end. We gave everything and we are going to reverse the situation, we must correct some things”.

“The impact of receiving the penalty goal cost us and the fact of having two fewer men surely had an influence. It is different that a penalty is charged in an 11 against 11, because it can be turned. This time it was uphill and just then came the second goal, which gave us no chance to reconsider. It’s time to correct. Situations were not favorable at the time and it was not easy to handle what happened”, he highlighted.

In addition, the coach criticized the performance of Jesús Cartagena, who imparted justice: “I went straight to the referee after the match, I told him it wasn’t fair. When you already have 10 players, the judge must take a second to make the decision. The player who disputed the ball was strong, but he didn’t even have a card. Staying nine, in a 0-0 draw, left us unbalanced. I hope there is a reflection on this, because it is just beginning. You have to be professional and careful.”.

Finally, Carlos Silvestri referred to the absence of fans at the start of League 1: “Combine an economic and encouragement theme.
