The US athlete who watched the birth of his daughter via video call before competing in Beijing 2022

A peculiar situation arose in the Olympic Games Beijing 2022. While the American athlete Leif Nordgren traveled to China, his wife was in the last weeks of pregnancy, so the athlete had to manage to see the delivery and decided to do it through a video call.

“It was really great”Nordgren, 32, commented on the birth of her daughter. “It was nice to be on the video chat and talk to my wife almost all the time. a really special day for our family”, he added. The USA athlete finished 87th in the 20km individual biathlon.

“It was actually very hard, to be honest”he added after his run. “I was thinking about my family in the warm-up and that brought me some tears in my eyes”commented to NBC.

“I can not with how cute this girl is, I can’t wait to get home to meet her! @caitlinnordgren, we did well.” he wrote on his Instagram account, along with a photo of his daughter.

It was not a good date

His wife Caitlin Nordgren, a meteorologist for NBC channel 5, said that before giving birth they realized when she became pregnant that “It wasn’t a good schedule for us.”

“Finding out that Leif wouldn’t be here for our baby’s arrival was absolutely sad.”she wrote on Instagram. But she told NBC that there is “a silver lining”. “He is in a kind of lockdown and therefore will be a little more available to take my calls and things like that”he indicated.
