The NFL without Tom Brady and the generational change that specialists expect

This Sunday the Super Bowl show is on what Matthew Staford and Joe Burrow can do. The Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks will seek to lead their teams to NFL glory, but they may be playing in the shadow of Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback who announced his retirement from the sport on February 1.

It will be a new NFL without Brady. Present in 22 seasons and winner of 7 Super Bowl rings (6 with the Patriots and 1 with the Buccaneers), he is the most successful player in the sport. No club has lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy more than him. The Pats and Steelers got to six each.

This is how Brady retires. He played in 14 conference finals and reached 10 Super Bowls, where he won seven. This season, his team stayed in the conference semifinals, justly defeated by the Rams.

assures Ciro Procuna, commentator for Fútbol América on ESPN and Star+, whom we were able to hear at a conference they offered for various Latin American media.

Brady leaves the NFL leading the all-time rankings for wins, completions and attempts, passing yards and touchdown passes.

  • 44 years
  • 22 seasons
  • 318 matches
  • 7,263 11,317 attempted passes completed
  • 84,520 yards
  • 624 touchdown passes
  • 203 interceptions

His legacy

“He grew up watching Michael Jordan, Joe Montaba and understands that there is no one more important and everyone wins their time and you have to give way to the new generation,” recalls Jhon Sutcliffe, field reporter for NFL games who will be this Sunday at the Super Bowl in Los Angeles.

But Brady’s departure opens the doors to new names. Patrick Mahomes, 26, has already shown all his talent with the Chiefs (he won the 2019 Super Bowl and reached the 2020 Super Bowl). Now Joe Burrow, 25, is in the SB. “ I believe that the NFL is going to continue being great after Brady”, affirms Ciro Procuna.

Although his retirement is sentenced and he enjoys his vacations on the beaches of Costa Rica, Eduardo Valera recalled that, in a recent interview, he left a window open. “Brady said ‘Never say never’. I think he is going to retire, but he left it there, dribbling, ”he assured.

Thus, the following season will be played for the first time in more than two decades without Tom Brady active. New talent will look to take their place, and the NFL will grow with them.
