The Liga de Expansión MX, a second division tournament in Mexico, has been the center of controversy last Thursday, after an incredible charge by referee Edgar Allan Morales Olvera. The judge was in charge of imparting justice in the Leones Negros vs. Atlante, but his performance generated much criticism before six minutes, when he sanctioned a non-existent penalty for the visit.

Everything happened after a center sent by Elbis Sousa Nascimento towards the area, in search of the aerial game of Ramiro Costa, the team’s scorer. The Argentine striker managed to get up high to connect with a header, although he collided with Edson Partida, his teammate, who had gone on the attack.

The two Atlante players ended up falling almost to the penalty spot, while Paul Bellón took the opportunity to clear. Surprisingly, the referee Edgar Allan Morales, who was located at the height of the crescent of the small rectangle, decreed the maximum penalty, which unleashed the discomfort of the Leones Negros squad.

Immediately, the “Melenudos” began to claim the decision, amid the whistle of the fans present at the Jalisco Stadium, but the referee was firm in his position. Despite the controversy, Ramiro Costa did not waste the opportunity and overcame the resistance of goalkeeper Felipe López, placing the visitor 0-1.

However, things did not end very well for Atlante, since the non-existent penalty did not prevent defeat. During the second half, Rodrigo Godínez (72′), Marco Granados (83′) and Daniel Amador (96′) declared the victory for Leones Negros, which helped them forget the negative performance of the judge.

How are Leones Negros and Atlante doing in the ascent?

The MX Expansion League reached its eighth day and currently the Black Lions are in fourth place, adding 16 points, three behind the Tapatío leader. For its part, Atlante is in seventh position, with 14 units.
