The scorer Marcos Riquelme, who passed through the ranks of Sporting Cristal in Peru during 2021, has been the protagonist of a scandal in the Bolivian League. The now Always Ready player lost control during the match against Tomayapo, for the third date of the Opening Tournament, he argued with Andrés Costa, president of the club where he plays, and ended up expelled.

Everything happened at the Municipal Stadium of El Alto, where the team of the Argentine attacker exercises his locality. Precisely, being at home, the ‘Albirrojos’ dominated the game and generated several scoring chances, although they did not take advantage of any of them, which caused a partial defeat (Mauricio Chajtur scored for the visit at 68′).

Coach Sebastián Abreu had trusted Marcos Riquelme’s offensive ability and had placed him as the starter, but the forward began to despair. The minutes advanced, the pressure and the claims increased from the stands, which generated the footballer’s anger, especially with Andrés Costa, the boss of Always Ready.

About 95 minutes in, the enraged athlete approached the rostrum where the president of the institution where he plays was located and confronted him, causing an angry exchange of words. The other members of the “Millionaire” team noticed the scene and tried to calm the scorer, although it was all in vain.

After a few seconds, in the midst of threats, Riquelme returned to the field of play, but could not finish the actions. Referee Álvaro Campos was warned by his assistant about everything that had happened and admonished the player, who had already accumulated a yellow card and, therefore, was sent off.

After the game, a little calmer, Marcos Riquelme regretted his reaction and made himself available for the resolution that the Always Ready authorities may take. “I apologize to my colleagues, Andrés (Costa) and the people around him. They (leadership) will decide what to do”, indicated the forward.
