Backtracking with Real Madrid: Mbappé studies the possibility of continuing to play for PSG

Every time he spoke about his future, Kylian Mbappé was very careful with the words he spoke. Months after the end of his contract with PSG (June 30) and, possibly, joining Real Madrid, a statement came from the scorer that, apparently, will change everything. In fact, in Spain they indicate that the world champion has a short and medium-term plan.

According to information from the Catalan newspaper Sport, ‘Kiki’ wants to reach the Santiago Bernabéu, that has not changed. However, the attacker meditates when that movement will take place, since he also wants to remain in the capital of France, at least one more year. Total, he is 23 years old and a road ahead.

Thus, Mbappé’s planning is to continue with Paris Saint Germain for the entire 2022-23 campaign, although he would sign a contract for two years, until mid-2024. In this sense, at the end of the next campaign, the striker will leave ‘Les Bleus’ leaving a significant sum of money.

This maneuver would force Real Madrid to have to deal with an unexpected transfer expense, something that it would have preferred to avoid, of course, but that it was also willing to do when they came to offer 200 million euros on August 31 in the last market day.

The statement that changed everything

After his display against Saint Etienne, including a brace, Mbappé confessed that he would like to become PSG’s top scorer in history, a title that today belongs to Manchester United’s Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.

“I only have Cavani left to achieve it. Being the top scorer for Paris Saint-Germain is something that cannot be ignored. We’ll see what happens”said Kylian Mbappé, who has scored a total of 156 goals since joining the Parisian club in mid-2017. Bondy’s is 44 goals away from equaling Cavani (200).

In this regard, the French newspaper L’Equipe analyzes the footballer’s latest statements as follows: “It allows to raise, above all, for the first time publicly, a possible extension, since to reach the 44 goals that separate him from Cavani he will need at least one more season”.

So far in the 2021-22 season, PSG’s number 7 has added a total of 34 games between Ligue 1 (24), Champions League (7) and French Cup (3). Mbappé has scored 14 goals and distributed 10 assists in the domestic competition. In the Champions League he has five goals.
