One of the saddest chapters in Mexican soccer history was written this Saturday night. Beyond the suspension of the meeting, the most unfortunate thing is that, according to the Mexican newspaper Récord, the violent acts claimed the lives of at least 15 people. Waiting for official versions, Liga MX decided to speak out and announced that it had launched a thorough investigation.

“The League began an in-depth investigation into what happened in the stands, on the field and outside the building during the Querétaro vs. Atlas corresponding to Matchday 9 of the LIGA BBVA MX”, the league reported in a statement.

On the other hand, Liga MX urged the Disciplinary Commission of the Mexican Football Federation to determine “exemplary sanctions”, according to the official reports of the match commissioners and referees.

The agency also reported thatThe corresponding criminal complaints will be filed for the acts of violence at the La Corregidora Stadium” and reported that “The injured people were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals and the official report on their health status is awaited.”

Finally, Liga MX detailed that Querétaro vs. Atlas will be rescheduled on a date and time to be confirmed, “Based on Article 64 of the Competition Regulations of the LIGA BBVA MX”.
