The British government authorized public attendance at Chelsea vs. Real Madrid for Champions League

Very good news for the ‘Blues’. The British government has allowed Chelsea to sell tickets for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge. In this way, a match behind closed doors is avoided, as marked by the sanctions imposed on the English club and that have prevented it from selling tickets for its last matches.

The British authorities updated this Wednesday the special license granted to Chelsea to continue operating on a day-to-day basis and allows it to sell tickets for the home matches of the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Women’s Super League, as long as the proceeds from its sale do not go to the club.

The money will go to UEFA, in the case of the ‘Champions’ matches, and to the English federation, in the case of the FA Cup and Women’s Super League matches.

Likewise, Chelsea will also be able to sell tickets for the Premier League games that it plays away from home, but not for those at Stamford Bridge. You will also be able to sell tickets to away fans visiting your London stadium.

“The Government has today made changes to the license that was granted to Chelsea so that fans have access to away games, Cup games and those of the women’s team. I would like to thank the fans for their patience.” said Nigel Huddleston, British sport minister.

The match against Real Madrid is a special case, since Chelsea does not have season tickets for ‘Champions’, so it required special permission so that it was not played behind closed doors.

The clash between the ‘Blues’ and the ‘White House’ will be played on April 6 at Stamford Bridge, while the second leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu a week later.
