Who is Anderson Daronco, the referee involved in two controversies that favored Uruguay?

It seemed to be a harmless hub. Indeed it was. But ended up becoming a controversy as big as the Centennialone of the largest stadiums in South America and the stage where the Peruvian team fell 1-0 against Uruguay by the penultimate date of the Qatar 2022 Qualifying. A defeat that could have been a valuable draw to get closer to the World Cup.

The 92nd minute was being played in the Uruguayan capital, when Miguel Trauco sent a cross from almost midfield in search of the strikers (Santiago Ormeño and Alex Valera). The ball does not fulfill its objective and lands pumped where the goalkeeper Sergio Rochet was positioned, who for a moment loses sense of location and controls the ball with his hands but stuck in his goal.

On the field, all the Peruvian players try to convince the referee that it was a goal. Outside, substitutes and coaching staff begin to claim the fourth referee. “It’s a goal, it’s a goal,” they yell at him, but the main judge, the Brazilian anderson daronco, he doesn’t flinch. He makes a small gesture to listen to his compatriots in the VAR but immediately continues the game.

“FIFA or the confederation, as the case may be, may use technologies such as automatic goal detection (DAG)the video assistant referee system (VAR) or the electronic performance monitoring devices (EPTS), as established in the Laws of the Game”indicates point 1 of chapter 9 of the “Regulations of the 2022 FIFA World Cup – Preliminary phase”.

“In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Laws of the Game promulgated by the International Football Association Board and in force at the time of the final tournament, video assistant referees (VARs) may assist the referee in his decisions through the use of replays of pictures”, Add. In Peru-Uruguay neither one nor the other happened.

Who is Anderson Daronco?

Anderson Daronco was chosen to impart justice in the crucial match between Peru and Uruguay, accompanied by his compatriots Bruno Pires and Kleber Gil (line judges), and Wagner Reway (VAR). Beyond the fact that he let the Uruguayans hit (André Carrillo was injured), the Brazilian seemed to take the match calmly. In fact, Chile’s defeat in Brazil did not put a Peruvian team on the ropes who, despite falling, depends on himself to secure the fifth place in Qatar 2022 (the playoff). However, a possible non-validated goal has put him at the center of criticism.

Who is Daronco? Known in his country and South America for his 90 kilos of weight and his muscles, the Brazilian referee directed for the first time in a tournament in January 2009, in the Gaúcho Championship. In October 2014 he became a FIFA referee. He has directed international tournaments, such as the Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, and also qualifying matches.

The other controversy of Anderson Daronco that favored Uruguay

In September of last year, on date 10 of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers, Ecuador visited Uruguay at the Champions of the Century stadium. The match ended with a 1-0 victory for the locals with a goal by Gastón Pereiro; however, the celebrations were marred by the controversies that occurred in a clash led by none other than Anderson Daronco.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation protested against arbitration for three specific plays: a possible penalty by José María Giménez against Michael Estrada and two violent tackles against Gonzalo Plata, the first by Nahitan Nández and the second by Rodrigo Bentancur. In fact, Estrada showed in photographs the marks of the studs that Giménez left on his left leg.

“There were details that ended up shooting the game to one place or another. The kick that they hit Gonzalo Plata was clearly expulsion and it was also a penalty against Michael Estrada “said the ‘Tri’ coach, Gustavo Alfaro, at the end of the game.

It was not long after that meeting and Anderson Daronco starred in a new controversy, this time the Peruvian team was harmed.
