Gonzalo Asis, side of Independiente, remembered the death of his grandmother and cried after a game

The Argentine Professional League Cup continues and this Friday the victory of Independiente de Avellaneda over Barracas Central (0-1), visiting, was decreed on the eighth day. One of the architects of the ‘Rojo’ triumph was Gonzalo Asis, a 26-year-old right back, who had an outstanding performance.

The defender started for the first time in the tournament, but there was a negative personal circumstance that made him the protagonist of a moving scene. After the final whistle from referee Pablo Echavarría at the Claudio Fabián Tapia Stadium, the footballer squatted down and burst into tears, to the surprise of everyone present.

Immediately, the Uruguayan Sebastián Sosa, goalkeeper of Independiente, went to comfort his partner: he hugged Gonzalo Asis and dedicated a few words to him. At the same time, the rest of the squad made a circle, also trying to reassure the right back, while trying to understand the reason for the tears.

As reported by ESPN, the player broke down in the middle of the field when remembering his grandmother, who had died a few hours earlier. After hearing the news, the ‘Rojo’ fans did not hesitate to share messages of condolences for the athlete’s family.

After receiving the support of his teammates, Gonzalo Asis got up and went to one of the dressing rooms, although he was still clearly afflicted. Sebastián Sosa decided to accompany him at all times, leading him with an arm on his shoulder, and both left the field of play.

Gonzalo Asis is in his third consecutive season with Independiente de Avellaneda (six in total) and is fighting to win the starting position. In this Professional League Cup he has played two games (one in the starting eleven) and was another six times as a substitute.
