Carlos Alcaraz made history, because at 18 years old he became the first Spanish tennis player to win the Miami Open. The athlete defeated Casper Ruud in the grand finale to the applause of thousands of attendees at the Hard Rock Arena in the United States.

The ‘Wonder Boy’, as he is nicknamed in his country, suffered a lot to win the first set, as the Norwegian rival showed good serves. However, he emerged victorious with partials of 7-5. Then, in the second quarter, he lost his nerve and won 6-4 by scoring intense points.

At the end of the commitment, the young man expressed his excitement for this achievement. “I have no words to describe what I feel right now, it is very special. I am very happy with the victory and I am glad to do it with my team and my father, which is only the second time that he is with me in an ATP tournament ”he pointed out to the press.

In the same way, he remembered that he passed obstacles during the duel, however, he was able to reverse them. “I have tried to go on the attack against Casper and not let him dominate the game”, added the native of Murcia who also became the youngest champion in the history of the tournament.

It is important to mention that Sergi Bruguera, Carlos Moyá, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal are other Spanish tennis players who reached the Miami Open final, but could not win. On this occasion, Carlos Alcaraz broke that bad streak that persecuted his compatriots.
