Klopp on signing Haaland for Liverpool: ‘That’s something I honestly don’t want’

He is one of the most acclaimed players in Europe. Erling Haaland has been standing out for his quality and ability to score goals. Now the 21-year-old Norway international is ready to leave Borussia Dortmund for a new club; and, one of those who has ruled out-in advance-the probability of his arrival has been Liverpool, after statements by Jürgen Klopp.

The 21-year-old Norway international will be able to leave the German side at the end of the season, as he will have a release clause of 75 million euros ($82 million) attached to any move.

According to various media outlets in Europe, several clubs are interested in the player; being the most outstanding, Real Madrid, Paris St Germain and Manchester City. However, although Liverpool did not sound like a possibility, his manager decided to withdraw from the competition early.

“We will not go near there. The figures mentioned are insane. We have nothing to do with them. No chance”, Klopp told Sport Bild magazine.

“That’s something I honestly don’t want. That’s not fun at all,” Klopp added of the possibility of adding Haaland, who has scored 16 goals in 18 league games for Dortmund this season and provided five assists.

According to German media, the total cost of buying Haaland on a multi-year deal could exceed €300m, including his salary, agent fees and bonuses linked to racing over several seasons.

Haaland has made a huge impact in two-and-a-half years at Dortmund, having scored 27 league goals in 28 Bundesliga games last season and 13 in 15 games after arriving in January 2020.
