Hernán ‘Bolillo’ Gómez stopped being the coach of the Honduran national team after the poor results

It won’t continue anymore. Hernán Darío Gómez left the position of coach of the Honduran national team due to the disappointing results in the qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The Colombian coach left his team in last place in the octagonal final of the Concacaf.

The “Bolillo” Gómez was appointed technical director of the Honduran team in October 2021 to replace the Uruguayan Fabián Coito with the aim of correcting the bad step that the Central American representative registered in the Concacaf qualifier where he finished in last place with four points after four draws and 10 losses.

“After a meeting with the coach of the national team Hernán Darío Gómez, both parties mutually agreed to terminate the contractual relationship that linked him with the Honduran team,” Fenafuth reported on its Twitter account.

“We express our gratitude to Professor Gómez and his coaching staff, who during the period in charge of the ‘H’ always showed a high sense of professionalism, dedication, commitment, discipline and commitment to the service of the national team”he added.

The 66-year-old coach led Panama to their first World Cup in 2018, also coaching Colombia and Ecuador in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, respectively. He was also in charge of the representative of Guatemala from 2006 to 2008. For this reason, Honduras had the confidence to have him, however, the results were not given.

It should be noted that, in the Concacaf qualifier, the teams from Canada, Mexico and the United States qualified directly for the World Cup in Qatar. Meanwhile, Costa Rica will have to play an intercontinental playoff against New Zealand in June.
