It’s official: Reinaldo Rueda is no longer coach of the Colombian national team

Reinaldo Rueda’s story as coach of the Colombian national team officially came to an end this Monday, April 18. After a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Colombian Football Federation, it was decided “Disengagement from the position of technical director as well as his coaching staff” who accompanied him since January 2021.

“We express to Professor Rueda and his collaborators our most sincere wishes for success in their future work and in their personal projects, but not without first expressing our appreciation for their dedication and work”, added the FCF in the document.

On the other hand, the Colombian organization announced that the Executive Committee “will analyze and evaluate the existing options or those that may exist, in order to determine who should assume the technical direction of our Colombia Men’s National Team in the near future”.

Despite the renowned figures in the tricolor team, such as James Rodríguez, Luis Díaz or Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, Colombia was left with the desire to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The coffee team was in sixth place in the Qualifiers table, with 23 points, one less than Peru that will go to the playoffs.

“I think that not achieving the goal is a shame for Colombian soccer. It is a very strong frustration. He joined, but the great result was not given ”, Rueda declared, after Colombia’s victory over Venezuela, on the last day of the South American qualifying contest.
