Fernando Gago, after losing to Melgar: “The playing field was not in good condition”

Melgar kept the house respected and beat Racing Club 3-1 at the UNSA Monumental Stadium, in his third appearance in Group B of the South American Cup. The victory left the Arequipa team happy and, as expected, generated a feeling of dissatisfaction in the ‘Academy’, as evidenced by coach Fernando Gago.

“We were in the game a lot of the time. We had situations to put ourselves up on the scoreboard; then to tie it. It was a game that we knew was going to be difficult”. declared the DT of the Argentine cast at a press conference.

Likewise, Gago made it clear that he was not satisfied with the state of the field, although he did not consider that an excuse for the fall that broke an undefeated sixteen games.

“The field of play was not in good condition, not at all. The ball did not have a usual course of what a field of play has. So, we had to adapt to that, we had to adapt to the height thing a little bit. But they are not excuses at all. A winning streak was cut and now we have to be in competition again, ” he pointed.

On the other hand, Gago confessed that he does not like to say “if the result was fair or not”, but he believed that “the process of the game was even”.

“There were times when we were playing the game the way we wanted to play it, but there were circumstances in the game that led us to make mistakes or put ourselves at a disadvantage, but I don’t know if the result is fair or not”sentenced the young strategist.
